Grant Boyce Shippen, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 2, 2014, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community surrounded by his loving family. Grant was born June 7, 1919, in Menan, Idaho, to Thomas Casper Shippen and Eliza Cordella Boyce Shippen. He grew up and attended grade schools in Menan and Lewisville, and graduated from Midway High School. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 12, 1943, he married Margie Tanner Shippen in Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on February 16, 1944. To this union were born two daughters, Sheryl and Debra. Grant and Margie made their home in Idaho Falls, where Grant worked as a building contractor. He developed the Martin and Jennie Lee housing additions in Idaho Falls. He built many LDS churches, apartment complexes, and completed many additions to area schools, including Ethel Boyes, and A.H. Bush. Grant did construction jobs for the Air Force and Army. He was one of three builders appointed by Governor Smiley to the State of Idaho Contractor’s Board. He was a member of The Elks. Grant and Margie were co-presidents of the PTA at Edgemont Gardens Elementary for a year. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, including; member of a Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, dance director, Young Men’s President, Sunday School Superintendent, and home teacher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, traveling extensively throughout the world with his wife, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an accomplished author, and wrote three books which were enjoyed by many. Grant is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Margie Shippen of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Sheryl Ann (Paul) Savidis of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Debra Kay (Macdonald) Bluth of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Ben R. Shippen of Alpine, UT; sister, Vera Shippen of Pasadena, CA; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Casper Shippen; mother, Eliza Cordella Shippen; one grandson; one great grandson; three brothers; and three sisters. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS 28th Ward, 1165 Azalea Drive, with Bishop Mark Argyle officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Rexburg VFW and Honor Guard.
