Grant Peck Packer, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 2, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born May 21, 1925, in Ogden, Utah to Grant Parkinson Packer and Florence Benson Peck Packer. His parents moved to a farm in Twin Groves (NE of St Anthony) in 1927 when he was two years old. In 1937, after ten years on the farm, his family moved to Idaho Falls. He attended BYU for 1 year, then completed his Bachelor Degree at Ricks College, then a 4-year university..
In 1942 at the age of 17, Grant answered the call of his country and served in WWII in the Navy for three and a half years. While serving his country he was involved in four major engagements in the Pacific. About two months after his honorable discharge he left to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Western Canada Mission where he served for two years.
Grant married his sister's best friend, Beverly White, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She was his sweetheart and the light of his life. Grant served the community in the Lion's Club and Republican Party.
Grant was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in the LDS church his entire adult life culminating in 2 missions with Beverly to Atlanta, Georgia and San Bernardino, California.
Grant and his wife, Beverly White Packer, had nine children: Gloria (Brent) Bradshaw, Peggy (Stan) Stallings, John White (Anette) Packer, Kent Miller (Mini) Packer, Durel Peck Packer deceased, Wendy Packer deceased, Cindy Packer (Mike) Griffin, Tamara Lee Packer (Corey) Zander, and Brian Shayne (Lareen) Packer; 36 Grandchildren; and 20 Great Grandchildren
He also had four brothers, Leo (Lois) Packer deceased, Ossian (Donna) Packer, Don (Linda) Packer, and David (Paulette) Packer; and three sisters, Margaret (Ralph) Wood, Maurine (Kent) Vernon deceased, and Carla (Cary) Buster.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward, 1155 First Street, with Bishop Douglas Hillman officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, in Idaho Falls.
