Grant Ottley Haroldsen, 92, peacefully passed away on May 17, 2016 at his home in Idaho Falls.
The son of Oliver and Celecta Ottley Haroldsen, he was born on August 10,1923 in Idaho Falls.
He married Susie (Sue) Whiting in the Mesa LDS Temple on October 8,1951. She died in 2007.
Growing up on the family farm, Grant graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1942. He then attended the southern branch of the University of Idaho in Pocatello and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering.
For most of Grant's professional life, he was employed in the nuclear industry, beginning when the industry was in its infancy. He worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Lindon, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; and at INEL.
He was a life-long student, particularly of science, history and religion.
He enjoyed attending community and Idaho Falls Symphony concerts and he loved to garden. He and his wife owned the St. Leon "Pick-Your-Own" Gardens for many years and sold produce at the Idaho Falls Farmer's Market.
He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and served in callings throughout his life on the ward and stake level. He and his wife, Sue, served two Family History Missions at the Utah State Prison.
He is survived by two daughters, Gail (Joe) Porter of Burlington, Iowa and Mary Kay (Bill) Sprinkle of Dayton, Tennessee; two sons, Harvey (Myriam) Haroldsen of Idaho Falls and Roger (Julie) Haroldsen of Rigby; three brothers, Fred Haroldsen and Ray Haroldsen both of Idaho Falls and Orvil Haroldsen of West Hills, California;
eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Grant was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a son, McKay.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27 at 11:00 am at the St. Leon LDS Chapel, 6925 N. 15th East in Idaho Falls. The family will meet with friends Thursday, May 26 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls, and from 10:00 am to 10:45 am preceding the funeral.
Interment will follow at the Fielding Memorial Cemetery .
