Gordon Floyd Sorensen

Gordon Floyd Sorensen, 65, of Swan Valley, Idaho, passed away November 26, 2024, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Brio Hospice.

Gordon was born October 7, 1959, in Pocatello, Idaho, to John DeMar Sorensen and Carol JoAnn Rasmussen Call. He grew up in Grace, Idaho, later moving to Pocatello where he graduated from Highland High School. Gordon farmed in Grace and then went into the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator.

He met the love of his life and best friend, Kandi Sutphin, in 1992. They married on June 4, 1993. Gordon and Kandi spent 23 years living near Downey, Idaho. They moved to Swan Valley, Idaho, in 2016. He worked for Staker Parson Companies, retiring in 2018.

Gordon loved horses. He was a farrier, bred, raised, and trained quarter horses and appaloosas. He had chariot raced for nearly 20 years making it to the World Championships several times. He was the most proud of running in the Jackson Hole Shriners Cutter Races for years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and travelling. He and Kandi were always on the go. Gordon also loved every one of his nieces and nephews.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Kandi Sorensen of Swan Valley, ID; brother, Nathan (Anjel) Sorensen of Tremonton, UT; sisters, Leslee Sorensen of Pocatello, ID, Anne Marie (Bill) Sorensen of Pocatello, ID, and Shauna (Bill) Frayer of Inkom, ID; father and mother-in-law, Galen and Karyn Sutphin of Challis, ID; and sister-in-law, Kim (Mathew) Makay of Haslet, TX.

He was preceded in death by his father, DeMar Sorensen; mother, Carol Jo Ann Call; grandparents, Floyd & Ethel Sorensen and Clem & Alba Rasmussen.

Gordon requested a graveside service and Celebration of Life in Swan Valley in the Spring of 2025.

Our family is thankful to the Huntsman Cancer Institute and St. Johns Hospital Oncology in Jackson, Wyoming, for helping extend Gordon’s time here and fighting right beside him. Please consider donating in Gordon’s name to the Survivorship Program at St. Johns Oncology Department to help with the good things they do for the patients and their families while fighting.
