Click Here To View Memorial Video Gordon Dee Jones, 69, of Idaho Falls, passed away suddenly February 4, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Gordon was born August 10, 1944, in the back seat of a car, in Thermopolis, Wyoming, to Joseph Melling Jones and Leah Dalley Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Draper, Utah, and graduated from Jordan High School. He also attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and earned his Masters Degree in education from Idaho State University. On March 24, 1967, he married the love of his life, Carol Valeen Hill at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born five children, Gregory, Carleen, Catherine, Gerod, and Calise. Gordon and Carol made their home near Ucon, Idaho, where Gordon was a salesman turned school teacher at Burton Elementary in Rexburg, Fairview Elementary in Idaho Falls, and finally at Ammon Elementary where he was working at the time of his death. He also served as President of the Bonneville Education Association. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two and a half year mission to Taiwan Southern Far East Mission. He served in several callings throughout his life including Executive Secretary, Counselor in the Bishopric, Finance Clerk, Elder’s Quorum President, and Seventies President. He spent summers in his large garden. He enjoyed hiking, reading, Idaho history, teaching fourth graders, and ketchup. He loved being surrounded by his family. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Gregory (Kristin) Jones of Belmont, CA; daughter, Carleen (Justin) Judy of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Catherine (Richard) Barton of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Gerod (Rebecca) Jones of Twin Falls, ID; daughter, Calise (Kellen) Zollinger of St. Joseph, MI; brother, Winslow (Glenda) Jones of Yuma, AZ; brother, Joseph (Bonnie) Jones of Weston, ID; sister, Myrtle (Howard) Allen of Draper, UT; and 20 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Ucon LDS Stake Center, 2967 East 105 North, with Bishop Jon Holst officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
