AMMON, ID -- Glenna Mills Jernigan, 85, of Ammon, passed away June 9, 2009, at Life Care Center after a brief illness.
Glenna was born February 13, 1924, in Uriah, Monroe County, Alabama, to Dahlonega Washington Dyal Jr. and Pearl Agnes Baggett Dyal. She lived in Semirah Springs, Alabama, for 18 years and in Fairhope, Alabama for seven years. She attended Monroe County public schools and worked at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile during and after World War II.
Glenna married Robert Charles Jernigan December 31, 1949, in Mobile, Alabama, where they lived for 47 years. She worked as a substitute teacher while her daughters were in school and also served on the PTA. Glenna was a real estate agent in Mobile after her daughters left home. Robert preceded her in death on February 3, 1996.
Glenna was known as a great hostess and entertainer. She loved to cook wonderful Southern meals and tell stories. During hurricanes, when power was out, she would cook on her gas stove for the whole neighborhood. For 54 years she sewed beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren.
Glenna moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1999, to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren, who adored her. She was generous with all she had. She loved gardening, and, during her last weeks of life, she told care workers how to get to her home so they could cut her beautiful flowers for a bouquet. She was popular with her grandchildren for keeping current on sports trivia – especially Atlanta Braves and Alabama football.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for 14 years as president of the Mobile Branch Primary. She also served as the Relief Society President for many years and her favorite calling was teaching the 14-year-old Sunday School class. She taught early-morning seminary for several years and worked as a volunteer in the LDS Family History Center in Mobile. She loved the opportunity she had to work as a volunteer in the Idaho Falls Temple.
She is survived by her sister, Vivian Dyal Jordan, Montgomery, AL; three daughters, Ann (Alan) Stephens, Ammon, ID; Jane Quist (Alan) McMurtrey, South Jordan, UT; Sue (Dennis) Moss, Syracuse, UT; 20 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and two on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight sisters and four brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Ammon LDS 15th Ward, 3000 Central Avenue, with Bishop Brett Acor officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
Burial will be in the Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton, Alabama. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to LDS Humanitarian Aid online at give.lds.org/memoriam or by calling 1-800-525-8074.

I loved Glenna so much. She was such a wonderful person. She gave me a wedding shower 44 years ago, in her home, and was a special friend to my mom, Freda Hearn. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
