Glenn Ray Sayer, 95, of Iona, Idaho, passed away May 4, 2016, at his home. He was under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Glenn was born August 12, 1920, in Rigby, Idaho, to Thomas Alma Sayer Jr. and Luzella Morgan Sayer. He was the ninth child in a family of twelve children. His parents homesteaded a farm about 25 miles east of Idaho Falls in the Bone area. He went to school in a one room schoolhouse with only one teacher for all of the grades. He was sent to live with an uncle in Ririe during his first year of high school. The following year his family bought a home in Iona to live in during the school year. He graduated from Iona High School as Salutatorian. He graduated from Utah State University in 1952 with a business degree. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. On October 28, 1949, he married Dona Alice Talbot in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Glenn and Dona made their home in Iona, Idaho, where he lived the rest of his life. Glenn was a teacher for School District #93. He taught at Ammon Junior High School and Bonneville Junior High School. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Gospel Doctrine teacher, Scout Leader, Ward Finance Clerk, Stake Finance Clerk, and as a Stake Missionary. He was a faithful home teacher for many years. He and Dona served as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, gardening, camping, sports, and writing poetry. His family and friends treasure a booklet of his poems that he and Dona had published. He was so dear to his family and will be greatly missed, especially by his sweetheart, Dona. Glenn is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dona Sayer of Iona, ID; son, Kenneth (Paula) Sayer of Toquerville, UT, daughter, Shauna (Fred) Schneyder of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Monta (David) Sperry of Greene, RI, son, Brett (Joan) Sayer of Pocatello, ID, son, Ryan (Betsey) Sayer of Iona, ID. 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters, Leda, Ruth, Erva, Denise, Roberta, Genevieve, and Shirley; four brothers, Burdette, Drew, Stanley, and Gilbert; and one granddaughter, Janie Lynn Sayer. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Iona LDS Stake Center, 7555 North 55th East, with Bishop Lynn Rockwood of the Iona LDS 5th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 12:00 Noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

1 p.m. ,Saturday, May 14, 2016 Iona LDS Stake Center 7555 North 55 East Idaho Falls, ID, Bonneville 83401 Notes: The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 12-12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
