Glenn A. “Mike” Finck, 93, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away July 10, 2010, at Clovis Community Medical Center in Clovis, California.
He was born June 13, 1917 at Howe, Idaho to Ben Finck and Clara Snyder Finck. When he was two years old, his parents moved to Blackfoot, then to southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma, where they resided for 13 years. The family then returned to Mud Lake, and from there to Little Lost Valley.
Mike worked on power line construction in Nebraska in 1938 and 1939.
In 1941, he married Margaret Chestnut. They made their home in Richmond, California where they worked in the shipyards. After that they farmed in the Mud Lake area until 1955. They owned and operated a small repair shop in Monteview until 1960. They moved to Idaho Falls where Mike managed a generator repair shop. He retired in 1968.
After retiring, he started sailing. From 1974 until 1993 they raced a sail boat in southern Idaho, and northern Utah. They traveled in their RV for 160,000 miles, covering all the states west of the Missouri River. Margaret died in 1995.
In 2000 Mike moved to Clovis California to be with a very nice lady, Celma Watson. They have had a very good 10 years together in an upscale Mobile Home park. They camped in the motor home, enjoying a lot of nice campgrounds from the Sierras to the coast. Mike was out sailing his boat six times in 2009 at the age of 92.
Mike had a very good life doing what he liked best, being constructive and bringing mechanical things back to life.
All of Mike’s close family members died by 1995. He is survived by:
