Glen Standley

Glen R Standley, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 13, 2017, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Encompass Home Health. Glen was born July 15, 1930, in Clark, Idaho, to Joseph Hyrum Standley and Lillie Viola Russell Standley, the sixth of eight children. He grew up in the Ammon area. He attended schools there, and worked at the Ammon Brick Yard until he was 18 years old, when he enlisted in the Army. After basic training, he went to Japan for seven months, then to the Philippine Islands for three years. He came home on furlough in September 1951. He married (Glenna) LaRue Thomas on October 5, 1951, in Idaho Falls. When he returned to active duty, LaRue stayed in Idaho Falls and continued to work as a telephone operator. He was discharged on June 5, 1952, and came back to Idaho Falls. In August 1952, they moved to Pocatello, Idaho, and Glen went to work for the Railroad as a Fireman. When he was laid off for the season, he went to work for Roche Moving and Storage. At first he worked as a local mover, then drove long distance for Allied Van Lines (through Roche’s). He worked for Roches until 1964, when he went to work driving bus to the INEL site. He drove bus for 13 years, then was moved to management until his retirement in June 1992. He loved the work and his co-workers. He also received his Million Mile Award for driving one million miles without a preventable accident. While they lived in Pocatello, Glen and LaRue had two daughters and a son. In July 1964, they moved back to Idaho Falls and settled in the Lincoln area. They lived there for 33 years. There, they became active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In April 1970, they took their family to the Idaho Falls Temple and were sealed for time and eternity. Glen loved the Gospel and served in many different positions. He and LaRue served a Mission in the LDS Employment Office and they served as officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple for 15 years. Glen was a kind, thoughtful man, whose word was his bond. He loved his wife and family unconditionally and was never happier than when he had his family all together, surrounding him. He is survived by his wife, (Glenna) LaRue Standley; daughter, Vicki (Gary) McAtee of Kennewick, Washington; daughter, Brenda (Jeff, deceased) Taylor of Idaho Falls; son, David (Tami) Standley of Ammon; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Viola Standley; sisters, Dortha Workman, Zelma Coburn, Luella Lovell, and Veda Lazzarotto; brothers, John Wesley LaVere Standley and Keith Standley.
