Gladys Walton

Gladys Faye McKenzie Walton, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 20, 2017, at her home.

Gladys was born August 16, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Joseph Wilford McKenzie and Lallis Isom McKenzie. She grew up and attended schools in Howe and Idaho Falls. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1955. She served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army from June 1956 to October 1957, with a Good Conduct Medal. She married Frank Leming in June of 1957 and later divorced.

In October 1961, she married Harland Walton in Jackson, Wyoming. Gladys and Harland made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho and Huachuca, Arizona, where she raised her three children. She worked as a secretary for Paul Sulgar Real Estate. They later divorced in 1987. In 1993 Gladys returned to Idaho Falls to care for her aging Mother.

Gladys enjoyed racing her stock car, classic cars, quilting, gardening, playing guitar and singing, and spending quality time with her family.

Gladys is survived by her sons, Harland S. (Cheryl) Walton Jr. of Idaho Falls, Randy L (Victoria) Walton of Idaho Falls, Steven P. Hopper of Idaho Falls, Vincent L. Weston of Idaho Falls; step daughter, Virginia Walton of Idaho Falls; self adopted daughters, Jacqueline M. (Brent) Larsen of Idaho Falls, Jennifer R. (Ace) Ballard of Idaho Falls, sister Juanita M. (LeRoy) Weston of Idaho Falls; aunt, Joan Isom of Idaho Falls; cousins, Joyce Shoemaker of Blackfoot, Julie Isom of Idaho Falls, Elana (Ralph) Garcia of San Diego, CA, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Hopper; sister Karon Blaine and step son, Clyde Walton

A Gathering for family and friends will be held from 1 :00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. Burial will be on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
