GLADYS M. KERNES
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Gladys May Cue Kernes, 96, of Idaho Falls, died February 21, 2003, at Life Care Center.
She was born July 28, 1906, at Wakeeney, Trego County, Kansas, to Charles Edgar Cue and Rossetta Stephens Cue. She grew up and attended schools in the area. Following graduation from Trego County High School in 1926, she received her second grade county certificate to teach in 1927.
On September 26, 1946, she married Elmer Edward Kernes in Kansas. She worked as a school teacher for many years. She moved to Deerfield, Kansas, in 1974, to live with her brother after an accident which left her burned over 95% of her body. In 1996, she moved to Lakin, Kansas, to live in High Plains Nursing Home, then returned to Idaho Falls in 1998 to be near family.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Garden Club in Kansas. She enjoyed gardening, raising cattle and sheep, going for walks and had lots of cats. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren; Kellee Woodruff, Joel Lee Kernes, Terry Dean Kernes and Lee (Chuck) Kernes.
Surviving are:Son: Sheldon Kernes, Santo, TX 4 Grandchildren and 7 great grandchildrenShe was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.
Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Ririe-Shelton Cemetery with Bishop Bill Taylor of the Idaho Falls LDS Osgood Ward officiating.
The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, in Idaho Falls.
