Gerald Lyle "Jerry" Call

Gerald Lyle "Jerry" Call was born on July 5, 1954, to Albert Lyle and Mary Lou (Nanney) Call in Puyallup, Washington. Dad had five sisters, Darla (Gary) Hill, Starla (John) Davis, Gay (Golden) Gallup, Joy Taylor, and Laralee (Shawn) Kerr. Dad and his sisters worked hard growing up on the family farm in the Clark area, east of Rigby, Idaho. Milking cows, and tending to the fields kept dad busy most of the time. Dad was known for his stocky build and his amazingly beautiful blue eyes.

Dad shared many stories with us kids, from drag racing the city police, to riding his motorcycle home, case of beer strapped to the back, before anyone knew he had left. Dad learned early on how to fix anything he got his hands on. He could make anything run, no matter how long it sat, or how worn out it was. It was a challenge, and he was always up for it. People would haul their projects from miles around to dad's house because they knew he would get them going.

Dad had many professions over his career, from Noreen Bros in Rigby, driving truck, ASE certified mechanic, and working with his dad at the family car lot. After a back injury forced his retirement, most days you could find dad in his garage, pellet stove running, with a lawn mower, car or tractor being repaired. Nothing was out of his league.

We all shared countless memories with Dad that we will remember forever. Whether it was riding a snowmachine to Danny's house in the middle of winter, waking up the owner of the cafe to open for coffee and biscuits and gravy with his tabasco sauce at 6 a.m., watching him build clocks, rebuild carburetors, going fishing with the kids, waking up to the smell of coffee when we went camping, getting three or four phone calls a day from him, sitting in his garage and talking for hours, or driving around Jefferson, Bonneville and Madison County talking and enjoying his company, those were all times that we wish we could experience forever.

He also had endless stories and tricks from his past that Dad shared. Anything from UFO sightings on County Line Road, how he swapped the manual transmission for an automatic in his '69 Firebird, sinking a cop car in the Rigby Lake, the perfect way to "build you a 'dog" at Maverik, the best camping and fishing spots in the area, the perfect way to tie a swivel so if you snagged on something, you wouldn't lose your hook, showing us the lesser known spots in his hometown, and everything else in between. He learned so much throughout his life, and he made sure to share it with us.

Dad had six children, Jason, JC, Shaun, Heidie (Steve) Taylor, Justin (Jamie) Call, and Brady (Andie) Call. Dad also had multiple grandkids, as well as great grandkids. During his later years, his favorite thing in the world was spending time with his family. We were his most cherished accomplishment in life, and you could definitely see that in his big bright blue eyes, and his tight bear hugs.

Dad passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023, with Justin, Jamie, Brady, Andie, Heidie, Steve, Karston, Stetson, Eathan, and his baby sister, Laralee by his side. Dad was preceded in death by both his mom and dad, and his sister, Darla.

As per Dad's wishes, there will be no public services held, however, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please contact Heidie at 986-219-7680 for information.
