Gerald Edwards

Gerald Forest Edwards was born in Logan, Utah, on August 3, 1931. He grew up in Blackfoot and Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he also attended school. His parents were Forest Edwards and Coral Croft Edwards. He was the third child of four: Jeanne, Jack, Jerry and Carol. Jerry enlisted in the Idaho National Guard and later in the US Army. The Army sent him to Aircraft Maintenance School, later he was recalled to join his guard unit in Korea. He married Geraldine Mack in 1950. They had three children: Cindy, Jeff and Shauna. He worked on Palisades Dam after the Army and then moved to Utah and surveyed with the Highway Department. After the marriage to Geraldine ended, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy and was sent to Vietnam with the Seabees. Jerry was awarded the Korean Service Medal and two bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Secretary of the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and on June 25, 2000, was thanked for his service in the Korean War by Kim Dae-jung, President of the Republic of Korea. He married Sherry Jones Laws in 1977. Sherry brought three children into the marriage: Ralph Hagan, Dawn Laws, and Leslie Laws. Dawn and Leslie love Jerry as their father. Jerry worked mostly in the construction and engineering field most of his adult life. He worked in construction at the Idaho National Laboratories until he retired. He bought an Interstate motorcycle during this time and motorcycles became his passion. He has been active in the Honda Gold Wing Road Riders Association now for many years and put a lot of miles (and chrome) on his bike. He has many road warrior friends that he calls sisters/brothers and he cared about them deeply. He collected guns and loved to hunt, but was unable to do so in his later years. He stopped fishing when he found out he was supposed to eat the fish he caught. Jerry passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home in Ammon. Jerry will be missed dearly as he rides those open roads in the sky on his Goldwing. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack; and his son, Jeff. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd. There will be no visitation prior to services. Inurnment will be at Fielding Memorial Park following the services, with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
