Gerald Virgil Cornwell, 69, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away February 14, 2012, at his home in Idaho Falls, of natural causes.
Gerry was born October 5, 1942, in San Francisco, California, to Virgil Cornwell and Mercedes Davis Cornwell. He grew up and attended schools in Selah, Washington, then attended Yakima Valley College.
Gerry served in the U. S. Army Reserves, after which he began a successful career in broadcasting, starting in Yakima, Washington, in radio advertising. He met his future wife, Karen Kelley, in Yakima, and they were married in 1966. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the Tri-Cities area, where he worked at KEPR TV. Another move to Lewiston, Idaho, brought him the station manager’s job at KLEW TV.
In 1988, Gerry and Karen came to Idaho Falls, with Gerry serving as station manager at KIDK TV. He retired from broadcasting media in 1995 and began a new career as a real estate agent with Voigt Davis Realty. He retired from Voigt Davis in 2008 . . . to dedicate his life to golf! Golf was his love, followed closely by trying to be the greatest NASCAR fan on record.
