Georgiann Lafaye Smith

Georgiann LaFaye Smith, 51, of Iona, Idaho, passed away June 28, 2023 at her home due to a respiratory illness coupled with COVID.

Georgiann was born May 27, 1972 to Leslie and Nancy Smith. She grew up and attended schools in the Iona, Idaho area. She was the only girl sibling and was able to leverage this when negotiating new clothes or shoes. Her shopping skills remained strong her whole life.

After graduation, Georgiann pursued her dream of becoming a teacher and working with children. She served a mission in California before completing her degree at Utah State University.

Georgiann loved to travel and was able to teach in Texas, Nevada, and Idaho. Her desire for fun and dread of being left out allowed many great adventures. She always knew when a craft show, parade, or musical was occurring. She loved sharing these experiences with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed baking and would test new found recipes on her family. She would bring an activity to every holiday or birthday.

Georgiann enjoyed 25 years as an elementary school teacher. Her car was often packed with activities to engage and instruct children. She was able to be a foster mother which brought her great joy. Her support and love will be missed. Her excessive rooster collection will always be revered. We will miss you, Gann!

Georgiann is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Nancy Smith; and older brother, Anthony Wade Smith.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. Inurnment will be in the Iona Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
