George Joseph Schneider

George Schneider, beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, in Rexburg, Idaho, at the age of 81. Born on March 28, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, George lived a life rich with curiosity, humor, and kindness. He grew up in Philadelphia and spent many summers on the shores of Brigantine, New Jersey. He resided in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Schneider of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

George began his academic journey at the University of Notre Dame before transferring to and graduating from Colorado State University. After graduating, he lived in Colorado, starting a family and working for the Bureau of Mines for many years before moving to Idaho Falls to work for the Department of Energy, where his passion for learning and problem-solving led to a distinguished career. He retired in 2004. After retirement, George embraced his love of life by pursuing hobbies that brought him and others joy. He attended Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland, furthering his passion for cooking and honing his culinary skills and brought back a love of perfectly cooked eggs and Irish Soda Bread. He had a deep appreciation for music of all genres, from classical symphonies to classic rock, an enthusiasm for road trips-including a memorable 10-day journey to visit five national parks, with Cedar City, Utah, being a favorite destination-and a penchant for delightfully cheesy movies. Additionally, he found great fulfillment volunteering at the Idaho Falls Zoo, where he contributed his time and energy to support the community he loved, taking on projects that included everything from handyman jobs to bottle-feeding baby animals.

George is survived by his loving daughter, Georgia Schneider, who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted. Their road trips together are some of her favorite memories. His warm personality, infectious laugh, and dedication to those he cared about will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the staff of The Homestead in Rexburg, whose kindness and care meant so much during George's final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held in George's honor from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on December 27, 2024, at the Tautphaus Park Zoo Education Center, 2940 Carnival Way, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Friends and family are invited to join in commemorating his remarkable life and the indelible mark he left on those around him.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Tautphaus Park Zoological Society of Idaho Falls.
