GEORGE "SPEED" NUKAYA
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- George Hisao "Speed" Nukaya, 85, of Idaho Falls, died September 21, 2007, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 8, 1922, in Ucon, Idaho, to Kiukichi Nukaya and Ine Kishiyama Nukaya. He attended schools in Ucon and Ammon before pursuing studies at Utah State University.
He lived in Ucon, Ammon, Shelley, and Goshen. He married DeAun Irene Stewart January 13, 1948, in Walla Walla, Washington. They lived in Roberts, raising hay, grain, "spuds," beets, and five children.
He was a member of J.A.C.L. (Japanese American Citizen's League), and held several offices for many years. He served on the Roberts School Board . He was a charter member of the Roberts Lions Club. He served as President of the Market Lake Canal Board for 16 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, skiing, woodworking, bowling, and spending time with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brother: Fumio (Fumiko "Mik") Nukaya, Idaho Falls, ID
Brother: Jun (Taka) Nukaya, Idaho Falls, ID
Brother: Ken (Pam) Nukaya, Twin Falls, ID
Sister: Kiyo Sakaquchi, Harrisville, UT
7 Grandchildren & 7 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, DelRay; and a granddaughter, Debra Mulberry.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home prior to services. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
