GEORGE MORRISON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- George Philip Morrison, Sr. passed away on November 22, 2009, at The Good Samaritan Society, Idaho Falls Village, of natural causes. He was a happy resident of Fairwinds Retirement Community of Idaho Falls. He was born July 3, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, to Otto J. Morrison and Julia Louise Vivier Morrison. Over the years he lived in various states, but mostly in Minnesota, California, Nevada, and Idaho. He went to schools in Minneapolis and on the White Earth Indian Reservation in Northern Minnesota. He was a member of the Chippewa Tribe at Red Lake, Minnesota. On April 20, 1942, he married Madeline Virgil Rivet in Minneapolis, MN. They were married for 61 years and she preceded him in death on October 11, 2003, Las Vegas, NV. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate First Class on the PC 566 in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. They sank a German submarine during that time. George worked as a truck driver for many years of his younger life and in his later years, as a aircraft too maker for Northrup-Grummen Aircraft Co. He very much enjoyed his work on many of the planes we all fly in today. He loved to play and watch poker and he loved to travel – he visited very one of the 50 United States. His sense of humor and great smile will be missed by all. He was a life long member of the Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include: Son: George P (Jackie) Morrison, Jr. of Idaho Falls, ID Son: Louis D. (Earlene) Morrison of Las Vegas, NV Daughter: Kathleen J. (Jim) Ryel of Torrence, CA Sister: Jewell Smith Mitchell of Fallbrook, CA 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, and a sister. The family gives special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Fairwinds, the Good Samaritan Society, and Eastern Idaho Medical Consultants for their love, kindness, and attention to our father. You gave quality to his last years. Private family services will be held at a later date in Las Vegas.
