George H. Freidenberger, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away on February 23, 2015, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 25, 1930, in La Junta, Colorado to Johann Georg Freidenberger and Anna Busch Freidenberger, both of German descent. In 1934, his family moved to Pueblo, Colorado where he attended school through the fourth grade. The family moved back to La Junta, where he finished his schooling and graduated from La Junta High School. In 1948, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He had no intention of making the military his career, however 20 years and 6 months later he retired from active service. He served in all ranks from Private through First Lieutenant.
George attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University (BYU), Idaho State University (ISU) and University of Idaho taking courses mainly in sociology and business.
On September 6, 1952, he married Joyce Harding in Elko, Nevada. They were divorced in 1974. On February 26, 1979, he married Shirley Yvonne Mangum Hoskins in Phoenix, Arizona. George worked as a Veterans Employment Consultant with the State of Idaho Job Service for 21 years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and National Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Mustang Association of Marine Corps, an organization of members who were promoted to Commissioned Officer status from enlisted status in the Marine Corps.
George enjoyed gardening, wood working, motorcycling, and skiing. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and an expert marksman. He loved animals and owned exceptional dogs and horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Son: George Robert (Kimberly) Freidenberger, Boise, Idaho
Stepson: Terrell (Barbara) Hoskins, Shelley, Idaho
Stepson: Kim (Kelly) Hoskins, Shelley, Idaho
Stepson: Brad (Tammy) Hoskins, Tremonton, Utah
26 Grandchildren and 41 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Freidenberger; and a sister, Dorothy (Don) Winger.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for their kindness and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge), with George R. Freidenberger, his son, conducting. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Marine Corps.
