George Raymond Cooper, 94, formerly of Clarkston, Washington, passed away May 20, 2015, at The Gables Assisted Living Center of Ammon. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
George was born July 26, 1920, in Hardwick, Georgia, to Johnnie Lee Cooper and Mae Lois Moreland Cooper. He grew up and attended schools in Macon, Georgia.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Electrician’s Mate First Class.
In 1945, he married Arlene Cooper in Seattle, Washington. To this union was born three daughters, Barbara, Kate, and Carol. George and Arlene were later divorced. On June 6, 1975, he married Gertrude Elizabeth Cooper in Seattle, where he worked at Star Machinery as an electrician. Upon his retirement, they moved to Clarkston, Washington.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed riding and training horses, fishing, hunting, and ballroom dance. He supported his wife in her Catholic church activities.
George is survived by
his loving wife of 39 years, Gertrude Cooper of Clarkston, WA;
daughter, Barbara (Harold) Hellekson of Menan, ID;
daughter, Kate (Steven) King of Richland, WA;
daughter, Carol Seymour of Santa Cruz, CA;
21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Lois Cooper; brother, Johnnie Lee Cooper, Jr; sister, Mary Elizabeth Cooper Wade; and stepson, Bernie Stacy.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
