George Russell Archibald, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 20, 2017, at MorningStar Senior Living Center. He was under the care of Abode and Encompass Hospice.
George was born October 23, 1927, in Plymouth, Utah, to George Russell Archibald Sr. and Ila Laverne Babbitt Archibald. He grew up and attended schools in Malad, Idaho, and Tremonton, Utah, and graduated from Bear River High School. He also attended the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering. George enlisted in the Military and was honorably discharged in June 1951.
On April 21, 1950, he married Rilla Beth John in Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. To this union were born two children, Russell and Beth. They lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, and moved to Salt Lake City so George could attend the University of Utah, graduating in 1962. They lived in Livermore, California, for two years. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where George worked as an engineer for Idaho National Lab for 48 years. Rilla passed away September 6, 2014.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several capacities including serving as a temple ordinance worker and as a missionary for one year at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor’s Center and two years in the London England South Mission. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. They enjoyed spending time at the cabin they built in Island Park.
George is survived by his son, Russell Lee Archibald of Boise, ID; daughter, Beth Sue Archibald of Aurora, CO; sister, Ila Ann Taylor of Idaho Falls, ID.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 25, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., both times at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
