Genevieve Storer

Genevieve Storer, 87, of Iona died peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2012. She was a much-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gen, as she is fondly called, was born on April 20, 1925, at Rigby, Idaho, to Thomas and Luzella Sayer. She spent her childhood at her parent's homestead near Bone. When she was 12, she moved to Iona where she attended Iona High School and graduated as the Valedictorian of her class in 1943. On November 23 of that same year, she married her high-school sweetheart, Willis A (Bill) Storer, who left shortly afterwards to serve in the US Army in France and Germany during WWII. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Gen was married to Bill for 57 years until his death in December, 2000. After his death, she deeply enjoyed spending time with each of her children and traveling the United States with them. She especially enjoyed socializing with wonderful friends who were called "The Merry Widows." She displayed her adventurous side by riding in a glider plane during her 70s and by overseeing a kitchen remodel when she was 83. All who knew Gen loved her cheery disposition and generous spirit. She was a talented mother who grew a large garden, loved to cook, loved to sing and made numerous quilts for others to enjoy. Her grandchildren loved to go to her house for fresh bread and rolls that she "always" had ready. She loved to fish and shared that love with her grandchildren who enjoyed their many hours with her. She always seemed to catch the most fish. She loved to play card games with friends and family. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her competitive spirit, her wonderful laugh and her plentiful treat bowls. One of her greatest joys in life was applauding and encouraging her children as they achieved higher education degrees and accomplished their dreams. She is survived by all six of her children: Karla Steere, Sharleen (Reggie) Estes, Dale (Le Anne) Storer, Pamela Mitchell, Glen Storer, and Lori (Martin) Woodbury. She has 31 grandchildren, 38 (almost 39) great grandchildren , and one great, great grandchild. As one of twelve children, she is survived by one brother, Glenn (Donna) Sayer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Thomas Alma and Luzella Morgan Sayer as well as her four brothers and six sisters. Mom, we love you and we will miss talking with you around the kitchen table. Continue to watch over us and enjoy a great reunion with your family members in Heaven. Friends and family are invited to a viewing Monday, Oct 8, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Woods Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, or on Tuesday at the Iona LDS Stake Church building (corner of Iona Rd and Ririe Hwy – 7555 North 55 East) from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. A funeral service and celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 a.m. She will then rest peacefully at the Iona City Cemetery.
