Geneva Gillen - 04/15/2002 Geneva Gillen - 04/15/2002 GENEVA GILLEN IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Geneva Ellen Olson Gillen, 97, of Idaho Falls, died April 14, 2002, at Life Care Center of causes incident to age. She was born July 17, 1904, at Ucon, to Andrew William Olson and Ethel Elizabeth Holtom Olson. She grew up in Ucon and graduated from Ucon High School. She also attended Keister College in Idaho Falls. She has been a lifelong resident of the Idaho Falls area. She married Parley Glen Gillen October 14, 1925, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where she was a homemaker and mother. She worked briefly at Montgomery Ward, Bon Marche, and C. C. Anderson Co. Her husband passed away May 27, 1985. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a counselor in the Relief Society, as a teacher in the Young Women's Program, and in various other capacities over the years. She served as Chairman of the Bonneville Heart Association, as President of the Emerson Elementary School PTA, and as President of the State of Idaho Fireman's Auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Idaho Falls sorptomist Club and also served as their President. She enjoyed china painting, quilting, knitting, crocheting, tatting, french beading, and flower gardening. She loved ceramics and had a ceramics studio for 20 years. Surviving are:Granddaughter: Glenna Joy [Larry] Hudman, Idaho FallsSister: Evelyn Thornton, Idaho FallsSister: Belva Kruse, Oakland, CASister: Crystal Johnson, San Jose, CA 1 Granddaughter, 6 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Parley, a daughter, Joy Hoffman, three brothers, A. C. Olson, Rulon S. Olson, and Ronald W. Olson, and a sister, Bernice Leavitt. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 9th Ward, 395 - 2nd Street, with Bishop Larry Campbell officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83402-4092. Phone 522-2751. FAX 522-5413.
