Gene Hicks

Forrest Eugene Hicks, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 28, 2024, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community.

Gene was born February 2, 1937, in Rigby, Idaho, to Hyrum Lee Hicks and Elva Geneva Brown Hicks. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby. He served as a Sergeant First Class in the National Guard.

Gene married Martha Willmore, and they had two sons. They later divorced. He later married Sherlene Morgan, and they had three sons. Gene worked in construction management for Morrison-Knudson and also Bectel in Ukraine.

He was a member of FFL (Friends for Learning). He enjoyed steel head fishing, writing articles for the Post Register, traveling the local area, and playing pinochle. Gene loved and was especially proud of his family.

Gene is survived by his sons, Shawn (Cory) Hicks, Phil (Jessica) Schmidt, and Danny (Sherri) Hicks; 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sons, Ephraim Lee Hicks and Lance (Bucki) Hicks.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends  from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Jefferson County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
