Gene Barnes

Gene Edwin Barnes, 82, of Lewisville, passed away March 8, 2011, at The Garden Assisted Living Center, in Rigby, of Natural Causes. Gene was born March 28, 1928, in Lewisville, Idaho, to Edwin Rufus Barnes and Mary Alta Ball Barnes. He was the oldest of seven children. He attended School in Lewisville, and graduated from Midway High School. He married Kathryn Balliff Berrett, on January 16, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in the Lewisville and Monteview area and had a daughter, Karen and a son Michael. Kathryn passed away on March 21, 1965. Gene married Muriel Dee Lyons, on September 15, 1967, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The lived in Lewisville and had two more children, a daughter Wendy and a son Daniel. Muriel passed away on October 16, 2006. Gene was an active member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. He served a two year mission to the Eastern States Mission from 1947 – 1949. He taught Sunday school for many years and was also the High Priest Group Leader. He served in the cafeteria at the LDS Temple for ten years. He enjoyed gardening, reading and mostly visiting with family and friends. Gene is survived by, a daughter Karen (Todd) Stowell, of Rigby, a son, Michael G. (Lisa) Barnes, of Hamer, a daughter Wendy D. Barnes, of Afton, WY, a son Daniel B. (Brenda) Barnes, of Bancroft. 13 Grandchildren, 6 Great grandchildren; Sisters, Norma (Keith) Clark, of Menan, Cheri (Ray) Hancock, of Rexburg, and three brothers, Robert (Kay) Barnes, of Lewisville, Melton (Susan) Barnes, of Bountiful, UT, Melvin (Judy) Barnes of Sandy, UT. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Douglas Barnes, and both of his wives, Kathryn and Muriel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Lewisville, LDS 2nd Ward, 474 N. 3450 E., Lewisville, with his son-in-law, Bishop Todd Stowell officiating, and Bishop Tony Nelson presiding. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and on Wednesday form 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery.
