Gary Vance Shults, 75, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 6, 2016, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living.
Gary was born February 13, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ora Laemon Shults and Sarah Louise Petersen Shults. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Gary also attended Ricks College and Utah State University. He served in the United States Army until he began having health problems.
He married Florine Beasley and they had three sons, Gregory, Jeffrey, and Jason. They were later divorced. On July 18, 1985, he married Sharon Landon in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 20, 1988. Gary and Sharon made their home in Idaho Falls, where Gary worked as a technician for Intermountain Gas for 35 years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including, High Priests, Ward Clerk, and Financial Clerk. He enjoyed cross-country skiing, fishing, building fly rods and tying flys, pottery, camping, four wheeling, and especially spending time with family and friends.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sharon Shults of Idaho Falls; son, Gregory Vance Shults of Clinton, UT; son, Jeffrey Alan (Sybil) Shults of East Helena, MT; son, Jason Gary (Tammy) Shults of East Helena, MT; sister, Elaine (Charles) Tawzer of St. George, UT; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora "Scotty" and Louise Shults; and brother, Kenneth Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward, 1155 East First Street, with Bishop Jason Skillings of the 24th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ashton-Pineview Cemetery.
