Gary Reed

Gary Lee Reed, 60, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 2, 2015, at his home after a one-year battle with cancer. Gary was born November 20, 1954, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Lyle Lee Reed and JoAnn Brown Reed. The family moved to Fremont, California, where he grew up and attended grade school. He graduated from Washington High School. He also attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho; Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; and Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice. In 1977, he married Jacquelin Rae Zimmer in the Oakland, California LDS Temple. To this union were born four children, Jared, Melissa, Amanda, and Rachael. Gary began his career as a Fingerprint Examiner with the FBI in Washington, DC; worked for ten years in the Utah County Sheriff’s Department in Provo, Utah; followed by 25 years with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a Crime Scene Analyst and Supervisor, retiring in January 2014. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two year mission to Gulf States Mission, was an Eagle Scout, and continued to be involved with the Scouting Program for over 30 years. He served his church in various callings, and enjoyed his time as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas LDS Temple. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with family. He and his wife recently returned to Idaho. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jackie Reed of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jared Luke (Terra) Reed of Burlington, IA; daughter, Melissa Leigh Reed of Henderson, NV; daughter, Amanda JoLynn (Robert) Weedman of Vienna, VA; daughter, Rachael Celeste (Tyler) Windholz of Rexburg, ID; parents, Lee and JoAnn Reed of Ammon, ID; brother, Alan (Julie) Reed of Rogue River, OR; sister, Carolyn (Emory) Martin of Georgetown, TX; sister, Colleen (Jay) Pimentel of Alameda, CA; sister, Mary Ann (Mark) Morrison of Tucson, AZ; sister, Brenda (Willard) Dye of Hughson, CA; sister, Darlene (Lance) Cheatham of Greybull, WY; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stillborn sister, Kathryn Reed; paternal grandparents, Albert C. and Annie Melvina Reed; and maternal grandparents, J. Earl and Constance Brown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Perry-Ririe LDS Chapel, 285 2nd West, Ririe, Idaho, with Bishop Bert Brown officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
