Gary Steve Layne, 75, of Jackson Hole, passed away on April 21, 2022. Gary was born on July 8, 1946, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Paul Layne and Mary Layne (Terry). He graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas, in 1964, and attended Baylor University.
Gary was larger than life, with a colorful personality, who never met a stranger. Anyone who met Gary was drawn to him and his story-telling, jokes, and his kindness.
Gary met Mary in Las Vegas, and they were together for 49 years. Gary and Mary lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for 14 years, and then settled in Jackson Hole in 1990. They traveled the world and were always together from the day they met. You rarely saw one without the other.
Gary was a Master Plumber who loved baking (especially carrot cakes), story telling, cookbooks, photography, traveling, and music. Gary was always on the phone, checking in with family and friends, telling stories, and wheeling and dealing.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Layne of Jackson Hole; daughter Tracey Wayman of Carrollton, Texas; sister Judy Prather and her husband Jude Prather of Arlington, Texas; sister Terry Sossamon and Charlie Harris of Burleson, Texas; sister Jayme Cole and Chad Hutchison of Arlington, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends around the world.
Gary made an impact on everyone he met.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date in Jackson Hole.
