Gary Eugene Hill, 71, passed away at St. Lukes Emergency Hospital in downtown Boise, on July 3, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He had suffered a devastating stroke on June 26, and his body finally succumbed to the stroke- related damage as he passed away peacefully.
Gary was born on July 13, 1951, to Alden and Marjorie (Sargent) Hill in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Gary was their first born and he was their pride and joy. He later became a big brother to two sisters, Debbie and Sharlene. He was an amazing big brother! Gary had a huge heart, was extremely intelligent and always worked hard to serve his parents, sisters and his family.
Gary graduated from Bonneville High School. He worked at the Paramount theatre during high school, doing the same job his father had done. He would run the projection equipment, build film reels and manage everything related to movie theater operations.
After high school Gary attended Ricks College—now known as BYU-Idaho—and earned an Associate Degree in General Education. He then began working for Rogers Brothers Seed Company as a self-taught computer network technician; long before computers were really known or utilized. Gary worked at Rogers Brothers Seed Company for over 20 years managing all I.T. operational systems for the company. He was very motivated and so very, very smart. While working full-time at Rogers Brothers, Gary continued to work at various cinemas in Idaho and Utah because of his love for film.
Gary was a wonderful and dutiful son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend to so many. He was always taking care of his parents and sisters. Gary was fun-loving, smart, hard working and witty. Gary loved all things movies, film, technology, healthy eating, outdoors, learning, reading and traveling.
Gary is survived by his wife, Yaying Xu Hill; son, Yu Li Jiang; his aunt, Colleen McGary; nephew, Justin Sheen; three nieces, Katie Sheen Abbott, Holly Sheen Smith and Julie Sheen Pratt.
Gary was preceded in death by his two sisters, Debbie Hill Sheen (2014), and Sharlene Hill Durtschi (2003); his mother (2018); his father (2019); and his grandparents.
