GARREN L. PETERSON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Garren Lamont Peterson, 86, of Idaho Falls, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away August 28, 2005, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a lingering illness. Garren was born May 2, 1919, in Lincoln, Idaho, to Nephi Hannibal Peterson and Annie Loveda Hansen Peterson. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls. Following high school he served his country as an Oiler in the U. S. Merchant Marines during World War II. Garren married Della Bacon June 22, 1942, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, his sweetheart of more than 63 years. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where he worked in real estate, as a land developer and contractor. Garren lived most of his life in Idaho Falls, and he and Della wintered in Yuma, Arizona, and St. George, Utah for 25 years. Garren was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Bishopric for nine years, three of them as Bishop of the Idaho Falls 8th Ward. He also served as Stake Young Men President, as a temple officiator for nine years, and as Branch Clerk in the Washington, Utah, 6th Branch. He and Della also served a full-time mission to St. George, Utah, in 1987-88. Garren enjoyed water skiing, harmonica, snowmobiling, traveling, traveling, and more traveling. He loved to spend time with his family, work with his metal detector, make copper tubing and enamel jewelry, collect coins, and make wooden clocks with resin. Surviving are his wife, Wife: Della Peterson of Idaho Falls, three daughters, Janis "Jan" (Bob) Hill of Idaho Falls; Holly (John) Bateman of Etna, WY; and Wendy (Roland) Howe of Kirkland, WA; a sister, Winifred George of St. George, UT; 13 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, & 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Brett and Randall, and a brother, Leland. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2005, at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 1st Ward, 1660 – 12th Street, with Bishop LaMar Densley officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team.
