Galen Dean Sorensen, 67, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 29, 2016, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Galen was born May 29, 1948, in Wendell, Idaho, to Wayne Demick Sorensen and Nina Elaine Ferguson Sorensen. He grew up and attended schools in Shoshone and graduated from Shoshone High School. He also attended Idaho State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a member of the 101st Airborne. He was awarded the Bronze Star and earned the rank of Specialist.
On November 21, 1971, he married Judith Ann Dowlin in Shoshone, Idaho. They were later sealed together for eternity in the Boise LDS Temple. To this union were born two sons, Craig and Kyle. Galen and Judy made their home in Dietrich, Idaho, and Blue Eye, Missouri. Galen worked as a dairy farmer, a ready mix truck driver, and for the State of Idaho Transportation Department.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, boating, fishing, 4-wheeling, horses, playing cards, and his grandchildren.
Galen is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Judy Sorensen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Craig M. (Charity) Sorensen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kyle W. (Jennifer) Sorensen of Florence, KY; brother, Milton (Julia Louisa) Sorensen of Gooding, ID; sister, Karen (Roger) Law of Mountain Home, ID; sister, Deann (Richard) Webb of Cascade, ID; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Susan Sorensen.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard at 2:30 p.m.
