Fujie O. Kunimoto, 92, formerly of Ogden, Utah, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 while residing at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community. She was born November 26, 1919 in Riego, California to Kichinosuke Okamoto and Sayo Kanshige of Japan. Fujie grew up in California until she graduated from the 8th grade. In 1933, after acquiring a black belt in Kendo, she traveled to Japan, Korea, and Manchuria with her Kendo group. She completed her high school education while she was in Japan. She married Henry Tanaka in 1939. They were later divorced. In 1942, she was interned at Tule Lake Relocation Center along with the rest of her family. She later relocated to Utah where she spent most of her life in Ogden, Utah. Fujie married Jimmie N. Kunimoto in May 1947. They were later divorced. In August 2010, she moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to closer to her daughter. Fujie retired after 27 years of employment at Hill Air Force Base, Utah where she was employed as a Inventory Management Specialist. She was a member of the Ogden Buddhist Temple. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing the organ and gardening. She was a Japanese American Citizen League 1000 Club Life Member. Fujie is survived by her daughter Karen K. Sato (Walter) of Idaho Falls, ID; two granddaughters, Stephanie Sueoka (Jay) and Heather Sato-Joyce (Bobby); and three great grandchildren, Samantha Sueoka, Cameron Sueoka, and Austin Joyce. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care she received at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community and for the excellent services provided by Creekside Hospice. A memorial service will be held at the Ogden Buddhist Temple on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden, Utah.
