Frank Thornton

Frank V. Thornton passed peacefully on September 26, 2010 at 83 years of age. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 27, 1927 of Frank A. Thornton and Kathleen Tewey Thornton. Frank and his beloved sister Kitty lost their mother at an early age. They were raised by a single Dad for some years, which included a move to the Idaho Falls area. Frank was raised as a cowboy and railroad man like his father. Frank joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He also worked in Long Beach, CA for the airplane industry returning to Idaho Falls after 8 years. Frank took up the careers he would follow into retirement many years later. He worked construction as a teamster, but his love was the railroad. He rose to the title of Conductor on the Green River run. Frank always had great stories of the times and friendships working for the UP and various construction companies. He married Ruth Reese in 1950. In 1955, he married Faye Page. Frank would often travel to his father’s ranch in Yakima, WA. to give “Gramps” a hand. Many of these travels were long drives during hot summers to help bring in a hay crop. In 1968, Frank married the love of his life, Lila Araquistain. She passed two days after their 39th anniversary. Frank leaves behind a smile and kind words. He was a devoted husband and caregiver. He will be missed by his children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His children are: Bill (Patsy deceased) Page, Boise, Idaho; Jim (Jill) Page Boise, Idaho; Marlene (Rick) Casper, Nampa, Idaho; Candace (Marten) Harrison, San Jose, California; Bruce (Cat) Weech, Anacortes, Washington; JoAnn Beazer, Logan, Utah; Linda Weaverling, Plattsburg, Missouri; Debra Cox , Idaho Falls; and Bob (Terri)Thornton, Boise, Idaho.
