Frank Date

Frank Date, 83, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away June 1, 2016, at his home. Frank was born February 15, 1933, in Ucon, Idaho, to Tsunijiro Date and Haruko Harada Date. Frank graduated from Firth High School in 1951. In 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Private E-1 during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army in 1955, he worked various jobs. In 1958, he decided to go back to school and enrolled at Idaho State College, where he received his certificate in electronics in May 1960. In October 1960, he started working for the Federal Aviation Agency. Frank worked as an Electronic Technician in many places such as Boise, Idaho, Worland, Wyoming, and Idaho Falls. The agency sent him to the Federal Aviation Agency Aeronautical Academy in Oklahoma City multiple times. He retired in 1980. On September 19, 1964, he married Aeko June Sakaguchi in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and they had four children. Frank enjoyed fishing, woodworking, classic cars, raising cattle, and trips to see his grandchildren. Frank also enjoyed watching television, including basketball and football, American Pickers, Pawn Star, and Judge Judy. Survivors are: Wife: Aeko June Date of Idaho Falls, ID Son: Gavin (Cathy) Date of Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Nanci Cutler of Idaho Falls, ID Son: Gregory (Kristin) Date of Spokane, WA Daughter: Marci (Lonnie) Ahlquist of Twin Falls, ID 6 Grandchildren: Blakely, Kaden, Brede, Logan, Shaylee, and Tessa Nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee; and a sister, Lena. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 237 N. Water Avenue, with Reverent Ruth Marsh officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday, prior to services at the church. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team Post 56 and Idaho Honor Guard. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Advanced Home Health, 2110 Niagara Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83401, or Idaho Falls American Legion Post 56, 1934 North 375 East, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
