FRANCES C. MARTIN
IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO: Frances Marie Christensen Martin, 94, formerly of Idaho Falls, died November 23, 2002, of causes incident to age at the home of her son, Jim Martin, of Rexburg. She was born October 14, 1908, in Levan, Utah, a daughter of James Andreas and Nicoline Nielsen Christensen.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1930.
On December 13, 1936, she married Ralph Halverson Martin in Nephi, Utah. They made their home in Jackson, Wyoming where she worked at the St. John's Hospital, and a year later they moved to Teton Valley where she worked in the Teton Valley Hospital and Ralph ranched with his father, Ed Martin. Frances served as the School Nurse in Teton Valley for 33 years.
Grandma loved to perform skits and was well-known for her Cackle Routine. Governor Evans appointed her for a 2-year term on the State Advisory Council on Aging. She served on the RSVP Committee (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and worked for 1 1/2 years on alternatives to nursing home care. She drove her car until the age of 93, shuttling people to Senior Citizens and Church. She was very active in Senior Citizens where she was the chorister from 1984 until she moved to Rexburg in 2002.
Surviving are:Daughter: Nicki (Kent) Heileson, Columbia Falls, MTSon: Jim (JaNae) Martin, Rexburg, ID 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.Sister: Merlene Collard, Nephi, UTBrother: Clyde Christensen, St. George, UTShe was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1981; one grandson and two great grandsons.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 31st Ward (1165 Azalea). Friends may call on the family Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.) and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Driggs City Cemetery at Driggs, Idaho. There will be a short graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
