IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Heaven welcomed a loving spirit on Monday, May 5, when Frances Henrie left this world for her final reward. This resilient lady was an inspiration in how she dealt with many trials throughout life, especially in how she defied emphysema, ultimately losing that battle.
A sweet, nurturing soul, Frances always offered a shoulder, an ear, or a hand. She devoted her time to all of her children's activities, including Boy Scouts, DeMolay Boys, Girl Scouts, Job's Daughters, and countless classroom trips, parties, and plays. We could always count on Mom to be there, bringing no-bake cookies and volunteering to be a leader.
Frances cherished her time with her family, traveling to Nevada for her grandson's wedding, camping over long holidays, and cooking for Thanksgiving. A lively grandma, she always made time to play Scrabble or Yahtzee with her grandkids and to shop at 5:00 AM on the day after Thanksgiving. Frances loved to share in her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments.
No one Frances met was a stranger for long. This caring, warm-hearted lady welcomed everyone, people and animals alike, with open arms. Many a stray found a home with her.
Born on April 4, 1934, in Butte, MT, Frances attended Emerson Elementary, Butte High, and Butte Business College. Frances was a talented ballet dancer, pianist, and violinist. She enjoyed music, dancing, and ice skating throughout her life.
She held various jobs, including waitressing at her family's ice cream store on Harrison Avenue and clerking and dressing windows at the Grand Silver (Five and Dime). Later in her life, she worked in the office at K and G Contractors in Idaho Falls.
Frances married Lester (Joe) Henrie March 5, 1952. Together they raised four children. Frances and Joe lived in Butte until the 1980s, when they moved to Idaho Falls.
Frances was a member of Job's Daughters, Rainbow Girls, Order of Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She served as a den mother, a Girl Scout leader, and a Guardian of Job's Daughters.
Along with the Heavenly Father, many friends and relatives greeted Frances at heaven's gate, including her parents, Lillie and George Ross and Clara and William Morris; her daughters, Janis, Nora, and Joleen; her son, Joey; son-in-law, Larry Doney; her favorite aunt and uncle, Stella and Martin Ward; sisters Ruth and Helen, and brothers Dick, Chub, and George; sisters-in-law Frances, Donna, and Janet; brother-in-law Everett.
In addition to her husband, those remaining to continue Frances's legacy include her sons Leslee (Deen) Henrie of Pocatello and Larry Henrie of Boise, daughter and son-in-law Lorrie and Mike Koski of Columbus, MT, grandchildren Andrew, Joey, Lesley, Katie, Sarah, Lisa, Mikaela, and Ryan, 7 great-grandchildren, and special nephews Dan Norton and Jim Norton; special friends, Virginia Nebeker and Byron Smith; brothers-in-law Wayne and Vince; sisters-in-law Audrey and Betty, and brother Don. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also were part of her life. She loved you all.
A private service and cremation have taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Fairfax Road at Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
"Maybe they aren't stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they're happy."
As you shine down on us, Mom, know that we're still looking to you for guidance and will keep you in our hearts forever. We love you. Happy Mother's Day.
