Floyd Miner Rammell, 72, of Idaho Falls and formerly of Tetonia, died January 9, 2011, at his home of complications following a mule accident July 15, 2008. He was under the care of his loving wife, LaRae, and Hands of Hope Hospice.
Floyd was born September 24, 1938, in Driggs, Idaho, to Russell Floyd Rammell and Faye Miner Rammell. He grew up in the Teton Valley and graduated from Teton High School in 1956. He also attended Idaho State University.
He married LaRae Arave May 26, 1960, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Floyd worked as a meat cutter all his life and formerly owned Rammell Merc and Rammell Valley Pack. After they moved to Idaho Falls he worked for Saving Center and Great Western Foods until he retired. Floyd and LaRae wintered in Hawaii for two years, and Mesa, Arizona for two years.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Floyd served in various positions over the years and especially enjoyed working with the youth. He rode in the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Posse, and was a charter member, rider, and served as president of the Teton Valley Saddle Club. He enjoyed team roping, bowling, camping, golfing, hunting, sports, and was a horseman. Floyd loved to train dogs to retrieve.
Called a “legend in his own time” and a “hero” by many of his friends, Floyd was the cowboy in the Carefree Sugarless Chewing Gum commercial that aired in 1991.
Surviving include his wife of 50 years, LaRae, of Idaho Falls; four sons, Rex Floyd (Lynda) Rammell of Idaho Falls, Gary L. (Ann) Rammell of Tetonia, ID, Casey R. (Rachel) Rammell and Dee J. (Tamara) Rammell, both of Jackson, Wyoming; a sister, Velda Hill of Tetonia, ID; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Noel Hill.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS Cedar Ridge Ward, 3195 South Holmes Avenue, with Bishop Brett Wright officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
