Albertino “Fernando” Ponce Franco, 52, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 30, 2026.
Fernando was born April 26, 1973, in Saucillo, Hidalgo, Mexico, to Agripino Ponce and Eloisa Franco Ponce. He grew up and attended schools in Mexico.
On July 29, 2017, he married Estela Gonzalez in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Fernando and Estela made their home in Idaho Falls where Fernando worked as a laborer for Snake River Truss.
He was a devoted member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a man of many talents. A skilled handyman, mechanic, gardener, and artist, he also had a deep love for animals. To his children and family, he was nothing short of a superhero. There was nothing he could not do.
Fernando was a hardworking man who formed many meaningful friendships throughout his life. Known for his loyalty, he was a true friend whose actions reflected his character. He found his greatest joy in having a project to work on, approaching each task with determination and pride. Once he set his mind to something, there was nothing he could not accomplish. A man of his word, he earned the respect of all who knew him. Above all, he will be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, which could brighten anyone’s day, no matter the circumstances.
Fernando is survived by his wife, Estela Gonzalez of Idaho Falls; daughters, Marlen Ponce, Nilze (Blaine) Boyle, and Devany Cortez Mares, Marlen and Nilze both of Idaho Falls and Devany of Mexico; sons, Daniel Ponce, Miguel Gonzalez, and Juan Pablo Ponce, all of Idaho Falls; brother, Orlando (Kerry) Ponce of Idaho Falls; brother, Gabriel (Olga) Ponce of Idaho Falls; sister, Ernestina Ponce of Mexico; brother, Polito Ponce of Mexico; brother, Miguel Martinez of Mexico; sister, Auimelia Martinez of Mexico; sister, Camarina Martinez of Mexico; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Liborio Ponce and Onofre Ponce.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
