Lana Fern Taylor Peterson, 97, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away October 14, 2016, at Fairwinds Sand Creek Retirement Community. She was under the care of her loving family, Hospice of Eastern Idaho, and Fairwinds nursing staff. Fern was born January 15, 1919, in Taylor, Idaho, to Chester George Taylor and Lana Ardell Arave Taylor. She attended Washington Elementary until eighth grade in Taylor, and then graduated from Idaho Falls High School. On September 8, 1937, she married Kenneth William Peterson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. To this union were born six children, Carolee, Judith, Margaret, John, Paul, and Robert. Fern and Kenneth made their home in Shelley, Idaho, for 60 plus years, where they farmed and raised cattle, and then moved to Idaho Falls. Kenneth passed away in 2003. Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions in the Church’s organizations. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and making quilts for humanitarian purposes. She and a friend taught their daughters to sew and cook through the 4-H program. She encouraged all six of her children to achieve their college degrees. Traveling to visit her children was an activity she and her husband enjoyed. Fern is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Pratt, Bountiful, UT; daughter, Margaret Kennelly, Idaho Falls, ID; son, John Kenneth (Madge) Peterson, Kennewick, WA; son, Paul Taylor (Debbie) Peterson, St. George, UT; son, Robert (Nancy) Peterson, Idaho Falls, ID; 29 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carolee Shurts; brothers, Donald and Joseph Taylor; sisters, Bernice Taylor, Maudell Meyers, and Hazel Taylor. In lieu of flowers, donations to the LDS Humanitarian Services would be appreciated (15 East South Temple, 2nd Floor East, Salt Lake City, UT 84150). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Fern’s son, Robert Peterson, officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services, both times at the funeral home. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
