FERN BECKER
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Fern Dopp Becker, 84, of Idaho Falls, had her wish come true – to be without pain and to die peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family, February 8, 2003.
Fern was born August 5, 1918, in Dayton, Idaho, to Henry Carlos Dopp and Mary Idell Henderson Dopp. She attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School. She received her training as a Registered Nurse at LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls.
Fern was married to Hollis H. Becker January 29, 1942, in their home near Idaho Falls. They had four children, Jerry, Janna, JoLeene, and Julie, whom they raised on the family farm in Oakland Valley, along with hay, grain, potatoes, and cattle. She was a true Jack-of-all-Trades: homemaker, mother, grandmother, baby sitter, and cattle rancher.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Osgood Ward. She loved playing bridge with her good friends of the FA Club, which she had been a charter member of for over 60 years. Fern rode in the New Sweden Pleasure Riders for many years and was active in the PTA.
After Hollis passed away on their 33rd Anniversary in 1975, Fern was an active partner with her son, Jerry, in the family farm and ranch. She loved to fish, read, and watch her grandkids play sports. Fern had a special place in her heart for Rick & Tana Passey and family, whom she considered part of her extended family. She will be missed.
