Fermin Avitia-Garcia, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 22, 2011, at his home. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Fermin was born April 15, 1932, in Agua Blanca, Mexico, to Remidios Garcia and Isabel Avitia Garcia. He was raised and attended schools there.
On May 6, 1952, he married Gracie Allen Bush in Carson City, Nevada. Together they raised five children.
Fermin lived in Truckee, California, before moving to Blackfoot and then Idaho Falls. For 20 years he worked as a railroad foreman for Southern Pacific. He was a restaurant owner for 30 years.
Fermin was a member of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife Gracie Garcia,
daughter, Sally Acosta of Stockton, CA;
son, Elibardo Avitia of Blackfoot, ID;
son, Raul Avitia of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Blanca Garcia of San Francisco, CA;
10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren;
brothers Rosalio Avitia and Juan Avitia;
sisters Josefa Avitia and Jesus Avitia;
and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons, Feliznando, Fermin Jr., Miguel, and Pancho.
A Funeral Mass for Fermin will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 1696 East 17th Street, with Father Raul Covarrubias officiating. The family will visit with friends at 6:00 p.m. Friday at Wood East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
