Fenton Hunt Tyler, 67, of Ammon, died on Friday, March 11, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of pneumonia.
Fenton was born May 13, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Fenton Charles Tyler and Hortense Hunt Tyler. He grew up in Ucon and graduated from Bonneville High School, earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University, and his master's degree in mathematics from the University of Idaho.
On October 9, 1964, Fenton married his eternal sweetheart, Ann Long, of Ammon, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. From 1966 to the present they have made their home in Ammon, where Fenton worked at INL as a computer engineer until he retired in 2005.
Fenton was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve in the Eastern States Mission, where he served in Long Island, New York, from 1962 to 1964. Fenton valiantly held many leadership positions, including Bishop of the Ammon 1st Ward from 1994 to 1999. He served a Humanitarian Mission with Ann in 2007. Fenton particularly loved teaching primary and parenting classes with Ann, and serving in the Ammon Stake Mission presidency.
In 1984, Fenton was elected to the District 93 School Board, where he enjoyed participating in school politics and served until 1993. He also taught computer classes for the University of Idaho for 35 years. He loved traveling, reading, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Fenton was the most loyal and loving husband and father, whose greatest joy in life was supporting his wife and children in all of their extracurricular activities and endeavors. Throughout his life Fenton's soft-spoken grace and humility endeared him to all who were blessed to share in his courageous battle with an insidious disease that would never rob him of his integrity, love of family or faith in his convictions.
Fenton is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Wendy Nielsen of Boise, Idaho, Allyson (Chad) Tanner of South Jordan, Utah, Peggy (Jon) Hastings of Boise, Heather (Doug) Leonard of Eugene, Oregon, Jeremy (Brandi) Tyler of Sunrise, Florida, and Jonathan (Kami) Tyler of Rigby; his sisters, Pamela (Lanny) Westerberg, Patricia (Ron) Miller, and Debbie Tyler; and 18 grandchildren.
