FARRELL G. AHLSTROM
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Farrell Glen Ahlstrom passed away April
19, 2005, at his home from natural causes.
Farrell was born September 12, 1920, in Shelley, Idaho, to
James Peter Ahlstrom and Sarepta Matilda Jolley Ahlstrom. He was the youngest
of 11 children. He grew up in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High
School in 1939.
While working as a mail clerk on the trains, Farrell enlisted
in the U. S. Navy in 1942. He graduated from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania Submarine
School. He served four years in World War II as a Technical Specialist in
Submarine Service, South Pacific. In 1947 he graduated from Kansas City School
of Watchmaking.
Farrell chose Anna Marie Hubbard of Elba, Idaho as his eternal
companion. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple
November 24, 1948. They have four sons. Farrell retired from Westinghouse
at the Naval Reactor Facility as a Senior Technician in March, 1984, after
28 years.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
he served as a ward clerk for 15 years, as a temple worker for 14 years, and
in various other church functions. Farrell enjoyed traveling, rock hounding,
river rafting, camping, meeting new people, and collecting jokes and mineral
curiosities. He loved to wait on his family and perform magic tricks for his
grandchildren.
Farrell leaves his wife, Marie, of Idaho Falls; four sons:
David (Vickie) of Orem, Utah; Douglas (Julie) of Tooele, Utah; Richard (Anna)
of Volga, South Dakota; Scott (Beverly) of Clearfield, Utah; 17 grandchildren
and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April
23, 2005, at the Idaho Falls LDS Osgood Ward, 7940 North 35th West, with Bishop
Gregg Landon officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7
to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Saturday for
one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park where military rites
will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team. Arrangements
are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
