Everett Nichols

Everett E. Nichols, of Ammon, passed after a full life on April 3, 2015, at the age of 91. Born January 14, 1924 in New Meadows, Idaho to Elbert I. & Evelyn H. Nichols, he lived on a small farm, attended schools in Adams County, and joined the US Army in 1942. Everett trained as paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and was sent immediately to England for the D-Day invasion at Normandy’s Utah Beach. He served as a forward observer in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, The Battle of Bulge and his division spearheaded the march on Hitler’s Hideout. Everett earned a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and Unit Citations with three oak clusters for the 327th Glider-Paratrooper Infantry Regiment. After the war, Everett (Ev) worked in the logging industry, driving trucks throughout the Payette national forest. He met the love of his life, Maxine Hart, in Idaho Falls, and they were married in 1962. The Hart family from Menan, Idaho, adopted him with open arms as part of the clan. Maxine’s boys, Kent H. (deceased), J. Steven & Maurice H. Stacey, and their families, loved him dearly as their father and grandfather. Ev was also loved as an uncle by the Hart clan, especially by the Neil F. Hart’s family, who cared for him these last 6 years. Ev worked many years in trucking and sales and later as a civil service employee at Hill Air Force Base, in Layton, Utah, where he retired. He and Maxine enjoyed golfing and fishing together through the years, and the two moved to Lake Montezuma, Arizona, in 1985. They later returned to Ammon, Idaho, and in Maxine’s later years, Ev was her faithful caregiver. Maxine preceded him in death in February 2009. Ev enjoyed volunteering at Pinecrest Golf course for over 15 years, where three of his seven holes-in-one were made, the last being in 2001. The Pinecrest staff quickly became a second family to him. He was lovingly known as “bucket-boy.” He spent hours on the golf course with his friends, wife, sons and grandchildren, and continued golfing well into his later years--he shot his age many times. We, the clan, would like to thank Onesource Health & Hospice (Shannon) and the loving nurses and aides (Amy, Lisa & Amber) at Fairwinds Leisure Care for their loving care of Everett in these last days and his adopted Hart family for their love and support. Everett requested no funeral. In lieu of flowers, give the veteran in your life a big hug and enjoy your local golf course. There’s no one home in Ammon.
