Evelyn Shirley Blattner Tibbitts, 91, beloved wife, mother and granny, passed away peacefully July 20, 2013, at her home in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. She was born November 10, 1921, in Arco, Idaho, to Harold Henry Blattner and Maud Evelyn Anderson Blattner. She was raised in Arco, where she attended schools and graduated from Arco High School in 1939. She was active in sports, music, drama, dance and student government. She was a talented dancer and taught dance for several years in the Lost River Valley. She met her sweetheart, Benjamin E. Tibbitts, Jr., at Arco High School, and they were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple January 26, 1940. Three days after their marriage he left to serve an LDS mission in the Hawaiian Islands. Due to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Ben was unable to return home until later in 1942. Evelyn and Ben spent their early years in Lost River, then bought a ranch in Challis, where they farmed and ranched. She was widowed at a young age and moved her family to Rexburg, where she worked at a children’s store and Ricks College. After retirement, she moved to Idaho Falls. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in the Relief Society, Primary and as a pianist. Her hobbies included reading, quilting, embroidery, good music and spending time with family and friends. She dedicated her life to serving her children and grandchildren. She is the mother of eight children: Son: Terry (Sheila) Tibbitts of Blackfoot; Son: Allen (Terry Sullenger) Tibbitts, deceased; Daughter: Shanna (Mack) Shirley of Rexburg, Idaho; Daughter: Marianne (Lemar, deceased) McGee of Meridian, Idaho; Daughter: Gail (Mike) Webster of Roberts, Idaho; Daughter: Laurie (Jack) Meikle of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Son: Ryan (Nan) Tibbitts of Park City, Utah; Daughter: Shelley Tibbitts, deceased Her posterity also includes 30 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Ammon LDS Centennial Building, 4459 John Adams Parkway (near Crowley Road), with Bishop Justin Judy of the Ammon 14th Ward Officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Arco-Hillcrest Cemetery.
