Evelyn Harkness

Evelyn Louise Dooley Harkness 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 26, 2012, at her home at Parkwood Meadows. Evelyn was born June 13, 1918, in Washington, D.C., to Timothy Lee Dooley and Eva Rebecca Flowers Dooley. She attended elementary and junior high school in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. On February 6, 1938, she married Leonard Howard Harkness in Washington D.C. Together they raised four children. Evelyn was a secretary and a bookkeeper for her husband’s electrical business, All Electric. Leonard passed away December 2, 1983. She worked various jobs while she lived in Virginia after her husband died. Once she moved to Idaho Falls she found work at Walmart in the women’s department, where she worked for nine years. Evelyn was a big fan of country music and was Alan Jackson’s number one fan. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many trips to Jackpot, Nevada with her friend Betty and bingo at the senior citizens center. Survivors include her Daughter: Pat L. Mortenson of Idaho Falls, ID; Son: Leonard H. (Agnes) Harkness Jr. of Pacifica, CA; Son: Richard A. (Peggy) Harkness of New Market, VA; Son: Michael L. (Susan) Harkness of Richmond, TX; 7 grandchildren: Keith A. Mortensen, Wayne A. Mortensen, Hans A. Mortensen, Mark H. Mortenson, Yvonne Harkness Mileham, Leonard H. Harkness III, and Shelley K. Harkness; and 9 great grandchildren, Jeremy Burdge, Daniel G. Mortensen, Audrey A. Spencer Loveday, Amethyst L. J. Albro, Cole M. Mortensen, Lauren C. Mortensen, James D. Featherstone, Andrew A. Harkness and Adam T. Harkness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her parents, and a son-in-law, Glen A. Mortensen. The family would like to give a special thanks to Cindy and Janelle, nurses at Creekside Home and Hospice and Megan at Western Visiting Nurses for their loving care. At her request, no services will be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
