Evelyn Marie Handley

Evelyn Marie Handley, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 29, 2026, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living. She was under the care of Eden Hospice.

Evelyn was born November 11, 1936, in Deseret, UT, to Elmer Leroy Cahoon and Josephine Ingrid Stephensen Cahoon. She grew up on a small family farm in Deseret, Utah. Evelyn graduated high school in Delta, Utah.

On October 24, 1958, she married James “Jim” Olin Handley. They were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 18, 2007. Evelyn and Jim made their home in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Evelyn worked as a housekeeper at the University of Utah. They traveled together each year to West Yellowstone, Montana.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved going out to dinner, going fishing (but hated eating the fish), and playing bingo with her friends at Turtle & Crane. Her favorite pastime was to read.

Evelyn is survived by her nephew, Norman (Lori) Cahoon of St. Anthony, ID; niece, Natalie (Dean) Riddle of Salem, ID; nephew, Roger (Barb) Cahoon of Roy, UT; niece, Sarah (James) Smith of Iona, ID

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Olin Handley; parents, Elmer and Josephine Cahoon; brothers, Richard Lynn Cahoon and Norman LeRoy Cahoon; and a niece, Michelle Rich.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
