Eva Mortensen Petersen, 73, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 8, 2013, at her home of natural causes.
Eva was born March 14, 1939, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Christian Charles Mortensen and Pearl Evelyn Chandler Mortensen. She spent her early years in Sugar City, then moved to Chinook, Montana, and Lincoln, Idaho. She graduated from Bonneville High School and then earned her associates degree at Ricks College. She served a full-time two year mission to Denmark from 1961 to 1963.
On April 10, 1964, she married Blaine Reese Petersen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had three children, Brian, Kevin, and Robert. They made their home in Tucson, Arizona, for one year before returning to Idaho Falls, where they have since resided. A homemaker and mother, Eva had also worked as a bookkeeper for Bonded Produce.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Primary President, Relief Society President, Visiting Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, and Temple Worker. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, traveling, spending time with family, and visiting Yellowstone National Park.

Brother, Gene (Sandra) Mortensen of Providence, UT,
Brother, Von (Darene) Mortensen of Salt Lake City, UT;
Sister, Barbara Palmer of Phoenix, AZ;
8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Chris Mortensen, Jay Mortensen, Perry Mortensen, and Newel Mortensen, and one sister, DeNiece Mills.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Idaho Falls LDS 3rd Ward, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive, with Paul Ziel, counselor in the 3rd Ward Bishopric, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
