Eugene Corey Smith

Eugene "Corey" Smith, 54, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 10, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Corey was born May 31, 1969, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Eugene J. Smith and Bobbie J. Sims. He grew up in Pittsburgh for some time, and finished out high school in Pasadena, California. As an adult he lived in Tenino, Washington, and most recently, Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1999, he met his wife, Shelly R. Smith, and on September 27, 2008, they married in Olympia, Washington. Corey and Shelly made their home in Tenino, Washington, along with their son, Trysten, for many years. They most recently settled into their dream family home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Corey worked at Costco, at the membership desk. He took great pride in his job there and was an outstanding employee for many years. He was a strong Christian, believer, and a man of faith. He was an avid Bible reader and seeker of truth. His most recent Bible study passion was on the topic of the Kingdom of God. He loved cooking, BBQ, shooting at the range, and was very passionate about his home theater system. Corey loved spending time with his family, socializing with others, and making friends everywhere he went. In difficult times he never lost hope and rose to every challenge. He always lived life to the fullest. He was a protector, provider, and fighter to the end. He will forever be with us in our hearts. Corey is survived by his wife, Shelly R. Smith of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Trysten Smith of Spanaway, WA; step-son, Devan Santos-Joseph of Tacoma, WA; and brothers, Tony Smith and Lawrence Armstrong. Also survived by aunts and uncles, Alvin and Cindy Smith, Glen Sims, Lana Sims, as well as two nieces, one nephew, cousins, and a host of other close family and friends throughout Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Washington. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene J. Smith; mother, Bobbie J. Armstrong; and grandparents, John Smith, Dorothy M. Smith, Lee Sims, and Mary Sims. Services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho. There will be a gathering from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service.
