GENE KNOX
IDAHO FALLS, ID --
Eugene Virgil "Gene" Knox, 78, of Idaho Falls, Idaho died January 20th, 2007, at his home from cancer. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Gene was born July 30, 1928, in Dixon, South Dakota, one of six children of Virgil Everett and Philora Ethel Strong Knox. He attended elementary school in a one-room school in Dixon, then attended high school in Gregory, South Dakota.
He was very athletic, playing football and basketball; always a leader, he was the high school Student Body President his senior year. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering and later received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Idaho.
Gene married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Chambers, May 30, 1948. They had 58 wonderful years together. Gene was a member of the Methodist Church, belonged to the American Legion and the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge and was a member of the Senior Citizen's Golf Association.
Gene worked for C.F. Braun Co, Aerojet General & Aerojet Nuclear, Kaiser Engineers, Pacific Gas & Electric, Impell Corp, ICF Kaiser Engineers Inc, Westinghouse Idaho Nuclear and Lockheed Idaho Technology, His work took him to several states thought out his career. He also worked in Spain Scotland, England, Japan and Australia. He retired at 68. The highlights of his career was working on the Apollo rocket project and attending the lift-off of Neil Armstrong's flight to the moon at Cape Canaveral which he had worked on.
Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and is best buddy "Bingo," his Pug dog. He was a avid golfer, jogger and bowler. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara C. Knox of Idaho Falls; children: Kathleen (Glynn) Jensen of Idaho Falls, ID, James (Terri) Knox of St. Anthony, ID, and Cynthia (Brad) Inloes of Ewa Beach, HI; three brothers, Bill, Norman and Ronald Knox, two sisters, Donna Matejka and Doris Knox; 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren, and his dog, Bingo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested contributions to Aspen Home Health and Hospice, 3470 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
